BScN, RN, Personal Trainer, Fitness Model, IFBB National Competitor, and CBBF National Bikini Champion
I was so lucky to have discovered the fitness industry back in 2002. Ever since then I have had the opportunity to pursue so many different avenues of this business, from personal training to starting my own bikini company, fitness modeling and competing to become the Canadian national champion! It is amazing to me that I have discovered a calling in my life that truly makes me happy and one that is so gratifying. I will always be thankful for the friends that I have met along this journey and I am glad to say that not a day goes by that I actually feel like I am working!! I love all of the hats that I wear and the responsibilities that I have chosen in my life.
My goal with everything that I do within the fitness industry is to provide motivation, inspiration and education to as many people as possible. We live in a day and age where the majority of the population have no idea how to treat their bodies, I feel that it is my responsibility as a fitness professional to be a role model for healthy living and to assist individuals in understanding that they can achieve fitness success by taking charge of the choices that they make on a daily basis when it comes to eating and exercise.
A brief glimpse into my life and background … I was born and raised in Edmonton Alberta by two very hard working and loving parents. I grew up along with two younger sisters and a brother. I was a girly girl tomboy. I was always hanging out with the boys trying to compete with them on everything from running faster, climbing higher, shouting louder, to even being the first to getting my driver’s license! I couldn’t ever be defeated by a ‘boy’. My family still jokes about that. I have although, since toned down my girl power’ a couple of notches!!
I was involved in sports all throughout my childhood. I trained in gymnastics and was a competitive ski racer for many years. I have also competed in adventure races and cross country bikes raced for an all girl mountain biking club. I started training at the gym in my late teens and was hooked for life at that time. I was a nursing student at the time and found that it was a great stress reliever. Something that I felt I desperately needed after being cooped up in classes and the library all day studying. At that time I also acquired my Personal training and Fitness Instructor Certification and worked part time doing this while in school. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2004 with a certification in critical care nursing and am currently working as a medical device sales manager, along with personal training and group fitness instructing. I lead a very hectic life but a very fulfilling one at the same time.
My first competition was figure for the Alberta bodybuilding federation. I took home a modest placing and was intrigued by the sport and the dedication that it took to excel. The next show I competed in I took home a second placing in both figure and fitness modeling. I was ecstatic. I have competed in the CBBF Nationals in Vancouver and placed first in my class, acquiring the Canadian champion title and runner up for the CBBF Nationals in 2010. I have also competed at the IBBF NPC in Cleveland earning a fouth place finishing. In 2011 I took home a second place finishing only three months into my pregnancy! In April 2011 the love of my life Sebastian was born. I was back at it after just a few weeks of adjusting to motherhood and with tremendous support from my family and friends continued on my journey to compete at the CBBF Nationals in 2012. I couldn’t have been any happier with my second placing only three months post baby! Children live what they learn and I hope to inspire my little guy to always follow his dreams no matter how big they may be. If he wants them bad enough he can achieve them. Anything is possible. Most recently I have competed in the Arnold amateur winning third place in my class and again a repeat of last year winning a second placing at the CBBF Naturals world pro qualifier. My desire and goal within the fitness industry is to turn pro and work on being the best that I can be by continually improving my presence and physique I have amazing trainers and they are confident that we can do this with a strict diet and training regime. Becoming a fitness competitor is a blessing for me. I believe that our limitations in life are the limits that we set upon ourselves. I was given a note by a friend the day of a recent competition. It has been very significant for me and one I’d like to share. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves. Who am I to be? Brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually who are we NOT meant to be?? Playing small does not serve the world. We are all meant to shine. As we do that, we unconsciously give others the right to do the same”. So ladies gentlemen…shine on!!
